Briton Gets Inspiration From Crappy Frankie Muniz Movie

06.04.2009 - Racehorse trainer earns his stripes by learning to ride a zebra... the animal that cannot be tamed

2005 saw the release of a truly awful film. It was called Racing Stripes and it was about a talking Zebra (voiced by Frankie Muniz) who wanted to be a champion racehorse. With the help of a teenage girl, he predictably accomplishes his dream.

The movie, like most geared toward kids, was formulaic, uninspired, and highly unwatchable. One Briton, however, loved it so much, he decided to take a stab at training a zebra to race.

Racehorse trainer Bill Turner bought the notoriously unpredictable and easily startled beast from a Dutch game reserve for £4,500. Just 14 months old and only half grown, the zebra is already giving Mr. Turner rides to the local pub. (Shocking that the first place a Brit thinks of to take his pet zebra is a local pub.)

Once it's fully developed, Mr. Turner plans to ramp up the training in hopes of getting the zebra to jump.

Animal lovers aren't too keen on Mr. Turner's efforts, specifically that a 51-year-old man is riding a half-grown zebra using an ill-fitting saddle.

One Daily Mail commenter voiced off her opinion:

"I am in the equine world and yes i am shocked! not by the fact that he is riding a zebra, but by the fact he is using a saddle that no where near fits the animal and he is sitting to far back and may damage the poor creatures back! and also at 14 months the animal should not being ridden as it has not fully developed!"
