Ok this guy is a moron and if you agree with the things he is saying in his book then u are two. Britain has a glorious history and one we should all be proud of. The author is just jealous of the countless ways our country has changed the world for the better and insecure about being an American

kayman92
grasse. seems like an english name to me the only rightful americans are red indians

ShahOfBlahII
The surname is I believe French(French and American-what a combination) I wonder if he is descended from Admiral de Grassethe hapless, hopeless loser of the Les Saintes naval battle? In which he and 5 ships ended up as English captives A victory described as "the most important victory gained agaist our perfiduous enemies the French"...until Trafalgar that is.

kayman92
funny how he hates england yet he makes interviews in england

wrighth03

Scotybaby
WTF britain supported hilter what a load of crap

It's our fault the Americans invaded Iraq? Yes, hmmm, I'm sure we dragged them kicking and screaming into that war... what a ringpiece.

And the other bloke's a tool as well for saying the US bailed us out of WW2. The US bailed themselves out. If Hitler had taken us, the Yanks would have been next. Without the British standing alone against the Nazi menace in 1940 - 41, the Americans would all be speaking German. It's about time people on both sides of the Atlantic started realising this.

suryavajra
Britihs didn't stand alone. They had the Commonwealth. Yet y'all never give them their share of the credit...

And yes, we did bail you out. And by the way, you're welcome.

kempo1990
"You came back in 1812 and we kicked your ass again". Perhaps, but not before we too washington and burnt the white house you deluded prick.

rottenwordsworth
When I say the British, I of course mean the British Empire, which includes India, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, the Nepalese Gurkhas and various parts of Africa. Yes, we are grateful towards these people, which is why we let them settle in our country in their droves after the war, and are still doing so. Whole areas of British cities are ghettoes full of Indians, Pakistanis, Africans and Caribbeans. We gave these countries independence as recognition of their help during the war...

suryavajra
No you don't. There are Brits who refer disaparagingly of Indians saying that the "Pakis weren't in Anzio or Montecassino or Dunkrik", which leads me to believe you Brits took the Commonwealth for granted. And after the war you conveniently forgot about them.

And te reason why those countries have their independence is because they took it after the War, asserting their own fundamental right of soveriegnty.

rottenwordsworth
What about the black people who have fought for the USA in so many wars? What have you done for them in return? Fuck-all. They're still treated like shit, especially in the South. Why don't you give the blacks an independent state in America? And, for that matter, the Native Americans? You can't lecture us on Empire when you've treated the blacks and Natives like shit for so long.

And no, you didn't bail us out. We bailed each other out. Britain, the US and the USSR needed each other...

suryavajra
Treated like shit?? Here in the US, one of the most honored Black military units were the Buffalo Soliders and the Tuskegee Airmen. Plus if you look at the politics, a lot of Black politicians have come out of the South, especially the Deep South, so what are you foinf on about??

And I find your talk hyporcritical as you treated the Commonwealth like shit for so long...It's like the pot calling the kettle black, man...

rottenwordsworth
If any one of those three - the British Empire, the USA and Russia - hadn't been there, Hitler would have won. If Britain had fallen to Hitler, you Yankees would have been next. Don't forget that.

Also, if you'd listened to the British on how to fight in the jungle, you might have won in Vietnam. Instead you were beaten by a bunch of little yellow Commies in straw hats! Ha ha ha ha!

LONG LIVE VIETNAM!!!!

suryavajra
I agree with you on the first point that all of the Allies needed each other to win it. I'll sign on to that.

But it's a bit rich to say that the US would of automatically been next on Hitler's little list, if Britian had fallen. He would of had to cross an entire ocean to reach us, and after all of that would of had to launch a gigantic invasion against a real continental nation. The logistics alone makes such a venture impossible.

suryavajra
In 1974, the NVA launched a conentional invasion of the South. The Americans had left by the previous year, but left the South Vietnamese with ample weapons and support to repulse the invasion. But South Vietnam was a house of cards that had been infiltrated by the North and ruled by corrupt dictators. And in the end Congress refused to give authorisation for President Ford to give a last ditch support to help the South Vietnamese. Hence North Vietnam was successful...

rottenwordsworth
One last point. You say this: "Yet y'all never give them their share of the credit... And yes, we did bail you out. And by the way, you're welcome."

That is one of the most hypocritical things I've ever heard. You're basically saying that we British think we won the war alone and we don't give others any credit, and then you go on to say that you Americans won the war alone and bailed us out, not giving the British, or their Commonwealth, or the Russians, any credit. Silly person.

rottenwordsworth
How did we forget about the Indians after the war? We gave them independence. We wanted India to remain a single country including Pakistan, but Jinnah wouldn't have it.

Yeah, there are a few racists in Britain, but you get them everywhere. Don't tell me there isn't any redneck trash in the US. Most British people have the highest respect for Indians. Indian food is more popular in Britain than British food. There are plenty of Hindu temples and particularly, mosques, all over Britain.

rottenwordsworth
Then there is the fact that Britain's (and the world's) most revered rock band, the Beatles, worked with Ravi Shankar and incorporated sitars and other Indian sounds into their music, and were influenced by Hindu gurus.

And as for Muslims - we let Muslims stand on our streets holding placards threatening us with holocausts!

suryavajra
Well after the war, the Indian soldiers never recieved their pensions. Many returned home to face poverty.

And I think all of the political problems in India could have been averted had India been granted Dominion status in the early 1900s like Australia, South Africa and Canada enjoyed. But no, the jewel of the the British crown was to remain only a colony.

suryavajra
I should be completely honest with you. i happen to be the son of Indian immigrants who was born and raised in this great country. And I was always treated the same as any other American. And even vast majority of the "rednecks", who you seem to have disdain for, are very nice once you get to know them and understand where they are coming from.

rottenwordsworth
There is still a lot of racism in the US. You have the KKK. You have police prejudice. And the blacks in the US are still the poorest class. What did the government do to help them after Hurricane Katrina?... Justice will not be done for black Americans until they have their own state, like how we got rid of our empire. At least our empire is totally in the past. And we abolished slavery before you.

suryavajra
The KKK was smashed into a thousand pieces back in the 1960s by the FBI. Infact these days you have hundreds of smaller groups, many of whom ironically are in the Northwest as opposed to the Deep sSouth with only a few dozen members each. As for Hurricane Katrina, I'll be the first to tell you that it was the biggest monumental failure of the Bush Administration which ultimately brought it down in our eyes. As for Black Americans, where will their state be. And would it be only for Blacks? LOL!

rottenwordsworth
It doesn't matter how you dress it up. You lost the Vietnam War.

rottenwordsworth
It wouldn't have been impossible. Don't be so complacent. Hitler wanted to join forces with Britain in order to take over America as well as Russia. So if the British Empire had fallen to him, and with it the army and navy, he would have already controlled a huge part of the world. Including Canada...

suryavajra
Well the logistics involved in attempting to conquer America make it impossible. His supply chain would greatly extended, and any campaign that far from home would have banrupted the Third Reich into oblivion. Plus Americans have an entire continent to fight with.

Plus you underrestimate our domestic security forces. All of the Nazies and their sympathizers here in the US were being watched, monitored and ultimately caught by the FBI. Americans used to play hardball back then!! LOL!!

suryavajra
Regarding the Commonwealth, I give them plenty of mad props (respect). My grandad was British Indian Army back in WW2...

So the Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Australians, , the askaris from all over Africa, Rhodesians and the South Africans were awesome and deserve to have their tales be recounted.

And yes, I give mad props to the British too!!! They fought very well especially when it looked like it was over for them.

rottenwordsworth
Good. I'm glad you realise this. The problem is, a lot of Americans don't, and they assume the US won the war by itself and bailed out the British. That's what annoys me. But it was a two-way thing, in fact a three-way thing with the Russians too. It annoys me how both British and American people ignore the part played by the Soviet Union. Perhaps in Russia they ignore the part the British and Americans played...

suryavajra
Yeah, that is the case. Many of the Russians here on youtube, take a dim view to the contributions of Britain and the US , saying the West did very little and almost too late. And they take the majority of the credit in beating the Nazies.

The problem with this view, is I think we end up disrespecting the soldiers who made ultimate sacrifices during that time. So my opinion, is that we, who have never gone through anything like that, and hope we never have to, shouldn't talk like that.

rottenwordsworth
Exactly. Millions of people died to defeat Hitler and give us all the freedoms we enjoy today, so we shouldn't trivialise the sacrifices and achievements of these people. People from all over the world, Britain, America, Russia, India, Australia, Africa, even France and Germany, fought and died to stop the Nazis. It was a group effort on the part of the human race. No-one should point the finger and say "You didn't do enough", especially as people of our generation have no idea what it was like!

suryavajra
rottenwordsworth, in a way it is awe-inspiring when you treally stop to think about it. A Red Army soldier from Kazakhstan, a British soldier from London, an American solider from the Midwest, a French girl fighting for the resistance, a Baluch from Northwest Pakistan, and a Rhodesian from the heart of Africa were all united in one purpose. To defeat a common enemy despite difference of language, culture, religion etc.

suryavajra
I think our problem is that we live in a very cynical age. And that as the years go on, and as the veterans get older and pass from this world, we as the young generation become very bitchy in places like youtube. In America we call it monday morning quarterbacking when we sit down after the game is done and act like the generals and think we could have done it better after the fact.

But they were acting in the heat of the moment, when things were happening at that instant.

rottenwordsworth
I'm not so sure. With almost all of Europe, plus the British Empire, at their command, the Nazis would have been poised for world domination. Taking the British Empire would have brought them to Canada and the Caribbean as well, right on the US's doorstep...

rottenwordsworth
I think there should be a black-majority independent state somewhere in the south of the US. White people could live there too, but the blacks would be in charge, like in South Africa. They need an alternative to the current situation, which is one country with a white side and a poorer black side.

suryavajra
rottenwordsworth,

I have friends who tell me that South Africa has only gone downhill since the ANC took over. So I don't know if we want a South African model of government, whether it be the last setup with Apartheid or the current setup with "democracy" anywhere in North America.

rottenwordsworth
Yes, this is true, and it was bad, but plenty of British soldiers were forgotten about after the war too. We were promised a land fit for heroes, and we got nothing. Working-class British ex-soldiers had and have to live on scummy estates with pitiful pensions, surrounded by drug-dealers and knife-wielding maniacs. The British government has never cared about its own people, let alone cared about people in the colonies.

But at least plenty of Indians were allowed into Britain after the war.
