Police As Racist As They Were A Decade Ago, Study Finds

02.16.2009 - Police 'still institutionally racist'

A review by the Runnymede Trust concluded that English police forces, despite efforts to handle the issue, are institutionally racist. As proof, they cited their failure to promote and retain black officers and also found them guilty of racial profiling.

The review, titled The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry 10 Years On, is a follow up to one done in 1999 that found that minorities were more likely to be fired and quit the police force.

The police claim that they're doing much better now since employment of minorities has doubled in a decade, but the review argues that while, yes, it has doubled, it was from a low starting point of 2% up to 4%. With the national average at 7%, one can see that the police leave a lot to be desired in this area.

The report stated: "Ten years after the publication of the Inquiry report, there is still significant progress to be made - notably in relation to the career experiences of black and minority ethnic officers and the disproportionate use of stop and search procedures against Black groups. It is difficult, in light of these continued challenges, to argue that the charge of institutional racism no longer applies."

With the Queen's husband, son, and grandchild running around saying things like, "Do you still throw spears at each other," to Australian aborigines, it's no wonder that the police force is institutionally racist. The whole country is institutionally racist. There's a racism epidemic on that island, and it's stemming from the top. Until those blue-blooded ingrates wrap their royal heads around equality, that country is not going to progress.

Sadly, we just don't see that happening anytime soon.
