Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs
Royally Messes Up

Philadelphia, PA – November 29, 2007

The British government is still reeling this week after last week’s announcement that it had lost sensitive personal information on 25 million
Britons in the mail. The data, which includes a variety of personal details including bank account identifiers, was sent via unregistered mail from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (the IRS) in October. Other government officials were notified when the package had failed to show up at its
destination after three weeks. Analysts have said that this particular data misplacement incident is possibly the most significant event of personal
information loss in the digital era.

Absolutely brilliant Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs guys! Really that’s totally cool. I can totally see how you might mishandle the sensitive
information of forty percent of your population, happens to me all the time. Yawn, I’m just going to throw these disks in the mailbox… and done. Tea
time! Oh wait, those guys didn’t show up at the National Audit Office? Okay, I’ll just throw another set in the mail again. It’s cool! Idiots.
