England Bans Obese Bus Drivers

10.06.2009 - Overweight bus drivers banned

Next time you hop aboard a red double-decker, don't expect the driver to be munching on fried blood sausages. Bosses at Stagecoach, a bus company that employs around 1,400 Britons, have sent letters to their staff stating that they must weigh less than 322 lbs. in order to keep their jobs. Why is the company setting a weigh limit for a job that requires about as much athleticism as competitive cheese eating? Simple: chair collapse. The bosses fear that fat drivers will break their chairs, so instead of reinforcing them with stronger materials, they're simply laying off anyone who's too heavy to sit in them.

The company has not said how many of its drivers are affected by this new policy, but we can safely assume that of the 1,400 people employed, 1,400 people will be fired.

In other news, 1,400 jobs have opened up in England for anyone who actually takes advantage of their gym membership!
